Potential Mets owner Steve Cohen receives endorsement from Art Shamsky
Potential New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has a fan in Art Shamsky. The 1969 World Series Champion gave him a Twitter endorsement.
Steve Cohen isn’t going away anytime soon. Over the last several months, he has had an on-and-off-again relationship with buying the New York Mets from the Wilpons. Just when fans thought the ownership nightmare would be over, a possible deal seemed dead and the dream of seeing Cohen own the team faded away.
In more recent days, the Mets seem like they are ready to fall into Cohen’s lap. All it will take is a few signatures, even more initials on the bottom of every page, and a few billion wired to finish the deal.
Many Mets fans are fully on board with a franchise owned by Cohen. Also in favor of this is former Mets outfielder Art Shamsky.
In a tweet, Shamsky summed up exactly why Cohen would be a good fit to own the Mets:
Endorsements like this don’t matter at all when it comes to a business deal of this scale. Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, and David Wright could all give him the thumb up and it wouldn’t do anything to push the sale through.
Unfortunately, the almighty dollar matters more than anything else.
The good news is that Cohen seems to have placed the highest bid of all to buy the Mets. It would seem the only thing to possibly get in the way are some of the other stipulations such as when he officially becomes the official owner and how quickly they can replace the “Reserved for J. Wilpon” sign on the best parking space at Citi Field.
Despite not having any leverage in the deal, it’s great to hear someone like Shamsky approve of Cohen. It’s tough to disagree with his simple points as to why. A fan with money is exactly what the Mets could use. For far too long they have been run by businessmen with money. Often, the question has been about whether or not they even care about the results on the field.

Shamsky is likely not alone in his thoughts on Cohen. In fact, if we got to poll the current players honestly, I’m sure they’d sound a little more like Mets Twitter these days than usual.
