There has been a lot of talks and discussion about whether the New York Mets should bring back the black alternate jerseys. Let’s argue in favor of bringing back these uniforms.

The famous New York Mets black alternate jerseys were first introduced to the team back in 1998 and were used through the 2011 season. The jersey was used as an alternative for both home and road games.

On the road, the jersey was worn with the gray alternate pants and at home with the white alternate pants. On both the road and at home, the jerseys were paired with a black hat with the classic “NY” in blue, outlined in orange and white.

A large number of fans have voiced their opinion regarding the Mets bringing back the black alternate jerseys, some hate the idea of it, but some also love the idea. A Twitter page, that goes by the name of @NYM _News photoshopped a picture of Pete Alonso and Marcus Stroman in the black uniforms which can be seen here:

A majority of the people that responded loved it, but a handful of people were not in favor. One person voiced their opinion which resulted in Alonso jumping in and being all for the jerseys and suggested the jerseys being used as Friday night jerseys.

Alonso’s response caught the eye of more fans as they agreed with him and teammate Marcus Stroman who responded as well. Stroman actually responded to Alonso with two different tweets.

The Mets should absolutely consider bringing back the famous black alternate jerseys. A large amount of the fans want them back and now even some of the Mets players are voicing their opinions on the jerseys.

Even if the Mets did only bring them back for Friday night home games as Alonso suggested in his tweet, I’m sure everybody would be more than happy with that including myself.

In addition to the fans and players wanting the jerseys back, the Mets themselves could benefit from bringing them back. This would allow the Mets to produce and sell the black jerseys with all the current members of the team which would result in more money in the team’s pocket. It is a win-win for both sides, the Mets get more money from sales of the jerseys and the fans get back one of their favorite jerseys.

In addition to the black alternatives, I would personally love to see the Mets bring back the white alternates with the black drop shadow that they wore from 1998-2011. I would also like the return of the blue and black two-toned helmets used from 2007-2011.

Now I wouldn’t necessarily use them together, but I would love to see them come back for a little bit. I do not expect the Mets to bring back any of the uniforms I mentioned in their normal jersey rotation, but I do think it would be cool if they brought them out a few times a year.

The Mets should definitely look into bringing back some of the older “classic” jerseys this upcoming year. Not only are the fans ready and want it, but some of the team’s top players are even on board with the idea of it. Like I stated earlier, it is a win-win situation, the fans get back the jerseys they want and the team can make some money off of it.
