According to the latest New York Mets trade rumors, the Flushing franchise is “seriously listening” to offers for Noah Syndergaard.
It’s not just the summer heat causing you to hit the on button to your air conditioner. The MLB trade deadline season is in its final week and New York Mets trade rumors are running wild like Hulkamania.
Thus far, Mets trade rumors have been merely that—rumors. They haven’t made any deals nor has anyone else outside of several minor moves earlier this month.
The 2019 trade deadline is going to be different with only one actual deadline. Because of this, the name Noah Syndergaard has become the subject of recent Mets trade rumors. According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Mets are “seriously listening” to offers for Thor.

A topic of sports talk radio for about two weeks now, the Mets are in a strange position with Syndergaard. They don’t need to trade him nor do I believe they should. With two years of affordable control left and in the midst of his worst season to date, his value isn’t as high as some would have you believe.
Only because just about every team in the National League is trying to convince themselves they shouldn’t sell has Syndergaard become a more talked about trade target for true contenders.
Per Andy Martino of SNY, teams who have discussed Syndergaard with the Mets include the Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, and San Diego Padres. And yes, the New York Yankees have talked to the Mets about him, too. All four teams could use another starting pitcher with the Brewers in the direst position of all with a winning record but a lack of starters.
Even if the Mets trade rumors say they are listening to offers for Syndergaard right now, many are doubtful anything even gets done. His age, controllability, and reputation make him a valuable commodity. Things could always change in the offseason. I wouldn’t blame the Mets if they thought of his future in New York differently, too.
It’s clear to something needs to change with this ball club. They cannot continue to put this same roster on the field and expect a different result.
Meanwhile, other Mets trade rumors have focused on just how much the team could get for Todd Frazier, Jason Vargas, or Zack Wheeler. Wheeler is the most logical choice to get dealt with his talent and expiring contract as the factors which have led to his name appearing in countless headlines about the trade deadline.

Those same teams hoping to land Syndergaard are also ones who we could count as “in” on Wheeler with the Padres as the lone exception. He’s a rental only teams with high hopes for 2019 should even consider. Sadly, for New York, he has also underperformed this year and may not bring the same return they once dreamed of.
