There were a ton of interesting New York Mets rumors this past summer. We received a little clarity from the one involving which teams had an eye on Jacob deGrom.

The trade rumor season is long in the past. However, that doesn’t save information from leaking out. Included in a recent piece published by Jon Heyman of Fancred are some New York Mets rumors involving Jacob deGrom.

According to Heyman, there were at least five teams the Mets shopped deGrom to. These ball clubs included both 2018 contenders and squads with a more hopeful future.

The teams included the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays. The Milwaukee Brewers were also knocking on the door, but it would seem they were waiting on standby should the Mets get desperate enough to move their ace.

A major focus in these trade talks involved the Mets shopping deGrom for only premium prospects. Knowing this, it makes sense why they would only talk with those five ball clubs. Each has a farm system with multiple young players with bright futures.

As we know, no deal ever blossomed. deGrom stayed in New York despite multiple Mets rumors suggesting otherwise at times.

With the way the season is finishing, I don’t see any of those teams or the other 24 out there having any chance at landing deGrom. There seems to be a sort of peace now with how well he has pitched and the little run-support he has received. There’s an acceptance that the offense let him down in a year in which he should have easily won a Cy Young. Although he may still, skeptics will cite his low win total.

I would like to think the Mets are gearing up for an active offseason. This doesn’t necessarily mean trading any of the pitchers. Zack Wheeler is having a career-year while Noah Syndergaard is putting together his own tremendous finish to complete an underwhelming season from his arm.

Yet another bonus, the offense is clicking. Michael Conforto looks like he really may be headed toward stardom. Jeff McNeil may save them from having to spend on a veteran second baseman and Jay Bruce could indeed avoid becoming a multi-season goat in New York.

There will be plenty of new Mets rumors to discuss during the offseason. One I don’t foresee is the subtraction of deGrom.
