2) Jose Rojas
Weirdly exciting and also someone who might’ve briefly crossed paths with Gerber in 2024, as a New York Yankees minor leaguer, Jose Rojas is a versatile defender coming off of a 32 home run, 105 RBI season in Triple-A for the other Big Apple ball club. The Yankees never called him up. His lone MLB action came with the Los Angeles Angels. In 241 trips to the plate, he mustered a .188 batting average. Earlier in November, the Mets inked him to a minor league contract.
Rojas appears to be more in the making of a Four-A player. He has two 30+ home run, 100+ RBI campaigns in Triple-A now. Unable to break through to the next level, this 32-year-old lefty swinger will get stashed in the Mets minor league system as he awaits an opportunity to finally get back to the show for the first time since 2022.
He creamed lefty pitchers last year with a 1.039 OPS and 30 of his home runs. We should consider him to be a guy who could fill in as a DH or bat off the bench in lieu of Jared Young whose own spot on the Mets depth chart should be questioned. Both are similar hitters who even spent time with the Doosan Bears in the KBO; just not at the same time.
We’ll hope Rojas never becomes too important for the Mets because that’ll mean they’re dipping a little deep into their system. If DJ Stewart could make us love him for a month, we’ll take a week of Rojas sending righty relievers to the showers.
