Batting third Pete Alonso, 1B
Guess who’s coming back for another round? Pete Alonso re-signing with the Mets makes the most sense for both sides. Even if his defense is on the decline, he’s coming off of a monster season at the plate that lit up his Baseball Savant page in red. His 126 RBI proved hitting behind Lindor and Soto was the best thing for this franchise. Alonso wasn’t the problem for the Mets last year. It was a lot of what was going on around him that cost them a playoff spot.
There isn’t a better first baseman for the Mets to secure. The international free agents coming over from Japan are intriguing yet we know better than to fully trust they’ll adjust well to facing MLB pitchers. After all, they’re coming from a league Anthony Kay just dominated in.
Other free agents have some pluses, as well as their minuses. On the trade market, we have to question if anyone is worth giving up a younger player to acquire.
This is a dream lineup so many of the other names mentioned won’t exactly be so logical moving forward. Just keep this in mind as we move forward and get a little greedy.
