What Should We Expect in 2020?

Unfortunately, with a crowded outfield and Alonso occupying first base, it does not seem that there remains much room for Smith on the Mets roster. Management will be forced with the decision to either maintain Smith as a bench player or look for trade offers in the offseason.

In my opinion, it would be beneficial to keep Smith on the roster because of the potential he demonstrated in the field and at the plate this season.

Smith has the ability to be a huge batting threat off the bench and can take over in the field for late-game defensive purposes. He is also able to take the lineup spots of injured players and consistent playing time can effectively improve his skills as a ballplayer.

If Smith is to remain on the team in 2020, I believe that he will be expected to raise the level of offensive production he had shown prior to landing on the IL and continue to progress defensively, raising his overall game.
