Should the New York Mets bring Dallas Keuchel to town? Let’s weigh the pros and cons.

During the offseason, first-year general manager Brodie Van Wagenen was busy as he made bold moves from acquiring Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz through trade to signing big-time players like Wilson Ramos. But after the latest rounds of rumors, the New York Mets may not be done making moves despite the season already being a week old.

Sportsnet New York reporter Andy Martino revealed he had sources that said the Mets were in continued contact for starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel. Despite being a former Cy Young award winner in 2015, Keuchel has yet to sign with a team for the new season.

Many Mets fans have been calling for Van Wagenen to sign the former Houston Astro since free agency began. But the narrative around the Mets seemed like they were ok with the starting five they had going into the new season. Although it is probably true that the Mets are happy with their staff and their depth behind them, it is silly to think that having Keuchel wouldn’t help them.

The 31-year-old free agent has also had interest from the division rival Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, yet there has been little movement in his market. Keuchel did have a down year after he won the Cy Young award as he posted a 4.55 ERA in 2016, but was able to post two solid seasons in 2017 and 2018 as he headed into free agency.

It is certainly shocking that the talented lefty has not found a home for the 2019 season, but it could work out in favor of the Mets. Here are the Pros and Cons of the Mets signing Keuchel.
