Wilmer Flores

As stated before Met fans love their homegrown talent, and especially ones who love to play for the team. No one defined the love for playing for the Mets over the past couple of years like Wilmer Flores.

Flores signed with the Mets when he was just 16 years old and it was the only team he had ever played for. After many years of trying to secure a spot on the big league roster, eventually, Flores became a utility player for the Amazins and offered many unforgettable moments.

Of course, Flores is well known for one moment in particular. The day Flores was supposed to be traded away to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Carlos Gomez, only he didn’t find out from the team but from fans buzzing in the crowd. Not being taken out of the game Flores took his position in the next half of the inning and was crying. Eventually, the trade fell through and Flores remained a Met for the rest of the season, it was the emotion he showed that day really won Mets fans over.

Many people say they love to play for New York. But how many loved it more than Wilmer Flores?

From walking up to the Friends theme at every home game to flashing his childlike smile every time the camera was shown. You couldn’t help feel good knowing someone cared so much to put on the uniform as Flores did.

Although Flores has now moved on to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019, Mets fans wish him nothing but success in his future.
