The New York Mets have the solid framework of a contender. However, they must be active this winter in order to actually be one.

It is easy to identify the biggest weaknesses of the New York Mets as the offense, yet their bullpen is completely lacking as well. One can be certain that their hands will be full this offseason.

To improve, the Mets must add up to three bullpen pitchers as well as a catcher, an infielder and an outfielder. The options are extensive and include a few of these names.

Nathan Eovaldi SP

Nathan Eovaldi is a very solid pitcher who can blow the ball by batters as well as using secondary pitches to work the zone well.

His potential can be highlighted by viewing his work in the 2018 Postseason where he worked six full innings to spare Boston’s bullpen, in game 3 of the World Series.

Eovaldi blends a fastball, cutter, splitter, curveball, and slider well and is ideally a fourth man in the rotation. This was the case when Boston acquired him at this year’s trade deadline.

It is true that he is an oft-injured pitcher and that could be troublesome for an organization with the recent history of the Mets. However, this move would be a good example of asset management.

Brodie Van Wagenen can demonstrate his asset management skills by making an expiring contract, in Wheeler, become a star catcher and a fairly reliable pitcher for only the price of Eovaldi’s contract and a few prospects. A small price for a team that wants to win now.
