New York Mets: Peter Alonso best and worst case scenarios for 2019

Worst Case Scenario
No optimistic fan dares to talk about a worst case scenario, let alone a self-proclaimed realist like myself. It’s seen as taboo and should that scenario come true, you’d be tormented until the end of time. On that note, let’s break down the worst case scenario for Peter Alonso in 2019.
As we’ve seen our beloved Metropolitans do time and time again, botching the growth of top prospects seems to come with the territory. 2018 saw puzzling moves regarding Dominic Smith, Amed Rosario, Jeff McNeil, Luis Guillorme and of course, Peter Alonso…just to name a few.
Unfortunately, there’s a real possibility that much of the same enigmatic approach is taken with the organization’s top young slugger in 2019. With anything between questionable days off and an experimental move to left field, the possibilities are endless for ways in which the Mets may stunt his development.
The struggles that may lead to these decisions should also be of some concern. As noted, Alonso had a very rough stretch near the beginning of his time in AAA. It should not be seen as a given that his absurd production translates to the games biggest stage. His defense may also stall, leaving him as a below average defender.
Hopefully, the worst case scenario will be laughably wrong come seasons end and Pistol Pete will show us all he is the real deal. In the meantime though, Mets fans can just continue to look forward to that best case scenario.
