Bobby Wahl

The Review: Bobby Wahl will turn 27 just before opening day in 2019. He averaged 96.1 mph on his fastball, but his slider and curveball were more effective according to FanGraphs pitch values. Not much time left to prove he is worth roster spot in 2019.

The Pitching stats:

  • G 7
  • IP 5.1
  • ERA 10.13
  • FIP 7.66
  • xFIP 5.57
  • K% 24.1
  • BB% 13.8
  • K-BB% 10.4
  • WHIP 2.44

The Grade: Incomplete

How acquired: Traded from Oakland with Will Toffey for Jeurys Familia. (per Baseball Reference)

Daniel Zamora

The Review: Daniel Zamora showed up in The Show on August 17, 2018, and proceeded to impress with a nasty slider which produced a 16.9% swinging strike rate. For comparison, Jacob deGrom‘s slider produced a 17.6% swing rate.

The Pitching stats:

  • G 16
  • IP 9.0
  • ERA 3.00
  • FIP 2.38
  • xFIP 2.41
  • K% 44.4
  • BB% 8.3
  • K-BB% 36.1
  • HR/9 1.00
  • WHIP 1.00

The Grade: Incomplete, with promise for a full grade in 2019

How acquired: Traded for Josh Smoker in January, 2018 season. (per Baseball Reference)

Chris Beck

The Review: Chris Beck throws hard, averaging over 95 mph on his fastball. And his BABIP and LOB% are both significantly better than average, suggesting that Beck was actually lucky to have these terrible results. The good news is that he declared free agency on October 1.

The Pitching stats: (Mets only)

  • G 6
  • IP 10.1
  • ERA 5.23
  • FIP 8.58
  • xFIP 6.56
  • K% 10.9
  • BB% 19.6
  • K-BB% -8.7
  • HR/9 2.61
  • WHIP 1.84
  • BABIP .241
  • LOB% 87.8
  • GB% 56.3

The Grade: F

How acquired: On June 13, 2018, the Mets claimed Beck on waivers from the Chicago White Sox. (per Baseball Reference)

Scott Copeland

The Review: Scott Copeland came out of nowhere, actually Binghamton via a pitstop in Las Vegas, and pitched a respectable 1.1 innings, never to be seen again, except in Binghamton. He is now a free agent again, so his time as a Mets will be soon forgotten. But I will remember this headline.

The Pitching stats:

  • G 1
  • IP 1.1
  • ERA 0.00
  • FIP 0.16
  • xFIP 0.16
  • K% 40.0
  • BB% 0.0
  • K-BB% 40.0
  • WHIP 0.75

The Grade: Incomplete

Notes: Copeland still maintains his rookie status.

How acquired: On April 17, 2018, signed as a Free Agent with the New York Mets. (per Baseball Reference)

Buddy Baumann

The Review: Buddy Baumann is left-handed.

The Pitching stats:

  • G 3
  • IP 3.0
  • ERA 24.00
  • FIP 9.83
  • xFIP  9.35
  • K% 19.1
  • BB% 23.8
  • K-BB% -4.8
  • WHIP 4.00

The Grade: F

How acquired: On April 27, 2018, selected off waivers by the New York Mets from the San Diego Padres (per Baseball Reference)

Drew Gagnon

The Review: Drew Gagnon is 28 years old and this was his first time in The Show. Not much to go on, but there is potential for a useful swingman to stash in Syracuse if he wants to come back.

He obviously needs to get his strikeouts way up and walks way down to be an effective reliever.

The Pitching stats: (reliever only) (please see starter report card for work as a starter)

  • G 4
  • IP 7.1
  • ERA 1.23
  • FIP 3.43
  • xFIP 5.01
  • WHIP 1.64
  • K% 15.2
  • BB% 12.1
  • K-BB% 3.0
  • HR/9 0.0
  • BABIP .333
  • LOB% 58.3

The Grade: Incomplete

How acquired: On December 22, 2017, signed as a Free Agent with the New York Mets. (per Baseball Reference) I know this slide says 2018 acquisitions, but it’s close enough.
