Jerry Blevins (yep, this happened)

The Review: Jerry Blevins was asked if he was willing to start his first game in the major leagues on June 24, and he said yes. He gave up home runs to the first two batters before settling down to retire the next six batters, three on strikeouts. Kind of Blevin’s season in a nutshell.

The Pitching stats as a starter only:

  • GS  1
  • IP 2
  • ERA 9.00
  • K/9 13.5
  • HR/9 9.00

The Grade: E for effort, which is somewhere between a D- and an F+ for results

P.J. Conlon

The Review: PJ Conlon is a lefty and he was born in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom at the moment.

The Pitching stats as a starter only:

  • GS  2
  • IP  5.2
  • ERA  11.12

The Grade: Incomplete

The Notes: On June 2, the Dodgers claimed Conlon on waivers from the Mets, and on June 6, the Mets re-claimed Conlon from the Dodgers.

Drew Gagnon (more on him in the future relief report)

The Review: Drew Gagnon (Pronunciation: GAHN-yo per Baseball Reference) pitched five games for the Mets in 2018, and four were in relief.  He made his major league debut on July 10, 2018 after being drafted by the Pirates in 2008 and again by the Brewers in 2011. There is not much else to say here.

The Pitching stats as a starter only:

  • GS  1
  • IP  4.2
  • ERA  11.57

The Grade: Incomplete

Chris Flexen (please see forthcoming reliever report card for a bit more)

The Review: Chris Flexen started against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 8, 2018. Things did not go well. The Rays won 9-0 in the middle of one of their two ridiculous hot streaks.

The Pitching stats as a starter only:

  • GS  1
  • IP  3
  • ERA  15.00

The Grade: Incomplete
