New York Mets: Report cards for everyone who played the infield in 2018

Dominic Smith 1B
The Nicknames: Dom, Medium Hurt (thanks to Kenny DeJohn of Newsday)
The Review: We will never know how Dominic Smith‘s 2018 would have gone if he had shown up for his first Spring Training start and stayed healthy. He went so deep into the doghouse, he ended up in a veterinary clinic. Your guess about his 2019 address is as good as mine.
The offensive stats: 78 PA .247/.256/.481/.737 (FanGraphs all stats as of 9/24, as 1B only)
The defensive stats: UZR/150 -15.0 (doesn’t measure picks on throws)
The grade: Incomplete due to lateness and health issues (that does sound like a college student)
Strengths: Getting in shape, Defense at 1B (I think)
Weaknesses: Time-keeping, Timing. Lack of opportunity, K% 33.1, 0.09 BB/K
Note: OPS only .532 when playing LF
Jay Bruce 1B
The Review: As Jay Bruce‘s range in RF decreases, his skills at first base improve. He sought out pros like Joey Votto and Anthony Rizzo for tips, and he is working hard to become better than adequate. Streaky hitter, usually fine when healthy.
The offensive stats: 69 PA .237/.348/.424/.772 (FanGraphs all stats as of 9/24, as 1B only)
The defensive stats: UZR/150 -6.3 (doesn’t measure picks on throws)
The grade: C
Strengths: Can still hit when he’s healthy, Leadership, Always says the right thing
Weaknesses: Streaky hitter, Defense is adequate at best although with potential to be closer to average
Note: OPS only .686 when playing RF
Jose Bautista, Phillip Evans, Ty Kelly, Kevin Plawecki
In the name of comprehensive coverage, these dudes also played in the Mets infield at various times and for various reasons that no one remembers.
They all get Incompletes for the infield; we are still waiting for their term papers.
Jose Bautista started 9 games at 3B and had a UZR/150 of 2.7. He also started 2 games at 1B, and even played an inning at 2B. What a year! Check the outfield report cards for his real grade.

Ty Kelly played 3.2 innings at 2B, 5.1 innings at 3B (and 1 complete game in LF)
Kevin Plawecki played 17 innings at 1B
