Do you think the Mets should try for JT Realmuto in off-season? – @e_montgomery_12

This one is a really tough one. I think having J.T. Realmuto play for the Mets would be awesome. He’s a great player and has a few years left.

Do I think the Mets should try for him? Yes. Do I think the Mets will get him or any catcher for that matter? No.

A few months ago I would have thought that the Mets were going to make a semi-big move at catcher at some point before the 2019 season starts. I don’t think that anymore after how the Mets played the trade deadline over the last few weeks.

Why didn’t the Mets trade away Devin Mesoraco? It really made too much sense for them not to move him. This is a lost season and it would have been win-win for the Mets. They could have gone with replacement level and minor league catchers for the final two months of the season and get a prospect or two back.

But they didn’t. They opted to keep Devin for two months and forgo new prospects. I find it hard to believe that they kept him because nobody else wanted him. I think they have bigger plans for Devins future.

I just don’t think the Mets even want him to hit free agency and risk going to another team. The Mets could have traded him away and then made an offer in the off-season. But I don’t think they want to take any chances. With the way he’s been playing, the Mets might want to offer him an extension or offer a contract the moment as soon as they can.

Realmuto would be an epic addition but their catching tandem next season could easily be Travis d’Arnaud and Devin.
