Role for 2018 and contract status

This one’s hot off the presses still. Bruce signed a 3-year $39 million dollar contract to return to the Mets. A great deal for the Mets both monetarily and otherwise. Aside from getting some of that power back in the lineup, and a set right fielder, the Mets get a veteran leader in the clubhouse. A role that David Wright has often taken on in the past now goes to Jay Bruce.

Clubhouse leadership is going to be his most important role next season. Especially since the Mets have a younger core on the rise with Amed Rosario, Dominic Smith, and even Michael Conforto. Having Bruce back gives me comfort going into spring training. If the pitching can stay healthy, it’s going to be a great lineup with the likes of Conforto, Cespedes, and Bruce right at the heart of the order.
