Dominic Smith entered the 2017 season has the Mets number two ranked prospect in their system. The first basemen reached the majors after a sizzling season in Triple A Las Vegas on August 10. Let’s take a closer look at how his season unfolded.
Mets fans were looking forward to the arrival of Dominic Smith and fellow minor leaguer Amed Rosario pretty much since the 2017 season began. Smith did nothing in the minor leagues to tempter expectations has he put up a tremendous season in Triple A Las Vegas slashing .330/.386/.519 with 16 dingers. As the Mets season slipped away and players were eventually shipped off, it became a matter of time before Smith reached the majors.
Things clearly did not go as planned for the organization in 2017 and the same could actually be said for Smith once he reached the majors as he struggled quite mightly after his promotion to the big club.
