Areas for improvement?
I’ve said this plenty of times before, but I think Nimmo could make a great leadoff hitter. In the past that usually meant someone who’s fast around the bases. Nimmo isn’t the speedster that Rosario is by any means, but he does have a bit more in that department than we think. It’s something I’d like to see next season. If he can tweak his approach at the plate a bit more, whether that be making more contact, or raising that OBP, it would really cement him as the guy in the leadoff spot.
Nimmo only stole two bags last season. But his speed score went up significantly from the previous year and he’s now at a 4.5. It’s not much compared to Rosario’s 7.0, but he managed to make it jump from a 1.9 in 2016. Which tells me that there’s still possibly room for improvement there until Rosario proves ready to take on that role of the leadoff man.
