Mets GM Sandy Alderson to return in 2018

We did it Mets fans! We survived a season that was an absolute train wreck from start to finish!

It wasn’t easy! It was almost unbearable! And amidst the swirling news of who’s out for next year, it looks like the Mets have confirmed who is definitely returning next season.

The Sandman himself (are people calling him that yet? I want that to catch on)! Now, I know most are quick to dump on Alderson. It’s easy to be skeptical of the Mets management. Especially when you consider who still owns the team. But if the years have taught me anything, it’s that Sandy Alderson is someone that really does have the team’s best interest in mind. Even if we can’t always see it at first.

Don’t forget, he’s the man that brought Noah Syndergaard to New York, along with Travis d’Arnaud, who fans seem to suddenly enjoy! Alderson got rid of Carlos Beltran and brought us, Zack Wheeler. He’s the man that that for once, made a huge move at the trade deadline to get the Mets Yoenis Cespedes.  And of course, there was the famous “trade that wasn’t made.” That last week in July of 2015 alone should be reason enough to put good faith in what Alderson can bring to the Mets future.

Next: Mets manager Terry Collins to resign, take front office job for next season

It’s going to be a busy next few days and a busy offseason in general for the Amazins. Alderson has no easy task ahead in replacing Terry Collins and (likely) Dan Warthen on the bench. There’s still no word on how long of an extension Alderson will get to stay on board with the team, but 2018 will be huge for him. This winter will be a defining one for Alderson because the moves that are made can cement him in Mets history as a hero or a villain.
