Let’s talk some Mets (and commiserate) with a new episode of the Rising Apple Report!
Back at the end of last week, myself (Sam Maxwell), Nick Ceraso, Rich Sparago, and Mike Lecolant got on the 147th episode of the Rising Apple Report podcast. While we missed the Nationals series, a couple wins and the Yoenis Cespedes injury, Michael Conforto‘s freak injury and just what this season has been was plenty ripe without the last weekend of August adding to it.

What does the infield look like next year? Is Jose Reyes involved? Does it make sense for him to be a piece off the bench and a mentor to Amed Rosario? At this point, the majority of our conversation revolved around 2018 and how to set up properly for it in the last month of 2017. Nick wants everybody shut down, including Jacob deGrom.
We talk about the free agents and positions we want to see the Mets tackle this offseason. We talk about the 800 million pound gorilla in the room, the Wilpons. A cold shutter overtakes me every time I write their name. Whether it is Madoff, the lack of statues or the overall tone deaf way they run the franchise, it makes every Mets fan sigh when their name comes up, and that was no different on this episode of the podcast.
We go over the players to have worn number 47 in Mets history, including Hansel Robles, Tom Glavine and Jesse Orosco. And we briefly talk about the 1947 seasons of the NY National League baseball teams of the era, which includes Jackie Robinson‘s rookie year. As always, we end with the last word rant.
It is remarkable we are 147 episodes into this podcast of ours, but we’ve been doing this since January of 2013 and most of us have wanted Terry Collins gone the entire time.
So, cue up the player and enjoy the latest episode of the Rising Apple Report!
