With the No. 59 pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, the Mets selected third baseman/shortstop Mark Vientos from the American Heritage School. The organization has signed him

On Sunday it was announced that the Mets had signed 20 of their draft picks — 15 of which are pitchers. On Tuesday we found out that the Mets also signed their second round draft pick, Vientos.

Vientos signed with the organization for $1.5 million. This is slightly above $1,094,700, which is what the No. 59 overall pick was valued at.

Vientos was originally referred to as a “third baseman/shortstop” He played shortstop in high school, but many such as Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com believe that he will be moved to third base down the line.

Having Vientos put in work at third makes sense, as we all know that current prospect Amed Rosario will be up in the majors manning the shortstop position hopefully in, and for, the near future. One can (hopefully) safely assume that if Vientos were to make it to the majors in the future, Rosario would still be the starting shortstop for the Mets.

Meanwhile, the third base position is a bit less clear as who will be there by the time Vientos makes his way to the majors. It makes sense to believe that Vientos will be moved to third base.

Vientos was ranked as the No. 67 prospect int he draft by MLB.com. Baseball America has him ranked as the No. 38 prospect. He was drafted out of high school and is only 17 years old.

During his 26 games his senior year, he hit .417 with one home run, six doubles, and 12 RBIs.
