2016 – Unfinished business
Final Score: Phillies 2, Mets 7
Attendance: 44,099

Expectations remained sky-high going into 2016, and rightfully so. The Mets acquired Neil Walker, retained Yoenis Cespedes, and deployed a group of young pitchers that carried them to November just months prior. But it wasn’t yet time to forget about last season:

The Lineup:

  1. RF Curtis Granderson
  2. 3B David Wright
  3. CF Yoenis Cespedes
  4. 1B Lucas Duda
  5. 2B Neil Walker
  6. LF Michael Conforto
  7. SS Asdrubal Cabrera
  8. C Travis d’Arnaud
  9. P Jacob deGrom

The Mets were a great team, and the Phillies were a terrible team. This game should have been a comically easy win–and it was. At no point did Jacob deGrom falter, and at no point did the Mets trail. Phenom Michael Conforto had a big game, as he looked poised to help carry the Mets offense in 2016.

While Conforto’s season–and many others–didn’t go as planned, the 2016 season was a magical one. But seeing yet another season end in crushing playoff defeat, in our home, has not sat well with any fan.

Next: Mets may finally get some value from Rafael Montero

On Monday, we can finally erase the images of a victorious Bumgarner, Posey, and Bochy, and replace them with those of Syndergaard, Cespedes, and Granderson. It’s been six long, long months, but Opening Day is finally upon us.
