Reminiscing on Mets Opening Days in recent years

2015 – Can we try that 90 wins thing again?
Final Score: Phillies 0, Mets 2
Attendance: 43,947
A 90-win season didn’t sound so crazy anymore. Crazy, yes, but not so crazy. Free agent acquisition Michael Cuddyer had a fantastic spring afterall, and was sure to bolster the lineup while taking some pressure off close friend David Wright. The Dark Knight had risen and the bullpen looked solid. But fans were getting tired of that Wilmer Flores kid kicking the ball around at shortstop…
The Lineup:
- RF Curtis Granderson
- 3B David Wright
- 1B Lucas Duda
- LF Michael Cuddyer
- 2B Daniel Murphy
- C Travis d’Arnaud
- CF Juan Lagares
- SS Wilmer Flores
- P Jacob deGrom
Citi Field was a madhouse. The crowd of just under 44,000 set a new (short-lived) record for the ballpark. Mets fans had waited, and waited, and waited…and on this day, they seemed confident that the wait was coming to an end. The offense was able to squeak out two runs against ex-Met Aaron Harang. This guy took care of the rest…
We know how the rest of this season played out. Cuddyer wasn’t quite as good as we expected. But everyone else was. 2015 marked the rejuvenation of the Mets franchise, and more importantly, the Mets fanbase.
