Mets Rumors: Citi Field to reportedly host Winter Classic

Well, the Mets won’t be using Citi Field in January, so why not bring the Winter Classic to Queens?

According to a couple of Newsday sources, having Citi Field host the 2018 Winter Classic between the Rangers and the Sabres is close to being finalized.

I’m a fan of bringing this nostalgic, highly-watched game to Queens. Also, I guess I am quite biased, as I am a Rangers fan and would love to see them play in another Winter Classic, and their first in New York City.

In fact, the Winter Classic has yet to be played in New York City. Yes, Yankee Stadium had a couple of “Stadium Series” games, but that’s about it.

Giving Citi Field the Winter Classic before Yankee Stadium… I love it.

We know that Matt Harvey will be happy about this, as he attends his fair share of Rangers games and is obviously a big Rangers fan. Just last month he spoke about how he keeps up with the Rangers while down in Florida at Spring Training.

In fact, Harvey even brought Noah Syndergaard to experience the Rangers back in December, so Thor should (hopefully) be pumped by this news too.

Fellow Mets and Rangers fans, I hope you’re excited about this. I have already seen some Islanders fans on my Twitter feed that don’t seem to be as excited about this news. But, let’s all focus on how Citi Field will likely host the first Winter Classic to be played in New York City. That’s cool, right?

Now, another question is, if this does happen, will Keith’s Grill be open in the cold January temperatures, or the rest of Citi Field’s food?
