A bullpen without Jeurys Familia

While a suspension hasn’t been announced by Major League Baseball, Familia missing significant time due to his involvement in a domestic violence incident on October 31 would have a big impact on how the Mets shape their bullpen.

Losing your closer may not seem like a big deal, but the Mets are arguably losing their best bullpen arm, hands down. Familia set a new club record for saves last season, and while the stat may not be as significant as it once was, it’s still really hard to do what he did.

The most logical move for Terry Collins and the Mets staff would be to bump up Addison Reed from set-up man extraordinaire to closer for the time-being. Reed has had some closing experience with the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks, but his ERA ballooned to 3.79 in 2013 and 4.25 in 2014 when he was asked to end games.

Next: Mets’ Opening Day starter will be Noah Syndergaard

As February ends and March begins, we’ll be able to see a clearer picture of how each of these questions get answered. These are obviously not the only questions that will pop up throughout the spring, and the season, but they are four of the main ones.

Unfortunately for us fans, these question can really go either way, but of course, we’re likely going to stay cautiously optimistic as always. As the saying goes, ‘Ya Gotta Believe.’
