The Bandwagoner

This is a fan that has infiltrated our fanbase only a few times in the history of the team. This Mets team is good right now and becoming a perennial playoff contender brings with it a whole slew of new fans. At the same time, the Yankees are in the midst of a rapid rebuild and there have been some defectors.

"A bandwagon fan is defined by Urban Dictionary as anyone who claims they are a “fan” of a particular sports team, even though they had no prior support for/interest in the team until that team started winning. These types of fans only show playoff interest, have probably never watched a regular season game, don’t own any type of team merchandise, nor would they buy any."

A bandwagon Mets fan is usually an optimist, because they have no reason not to be. We as die-hard Mets fans have to be as inviting to these fans as any because we all started our fandom somewhere. However, if they jump off the bandwagon at the earliest signs of trouble, don’t let them back on.
