Role for 2017 and contract status
Alejandro De Aza will likely not be back with the New York Mets in 2017. Sandy Alderson and co. signed him to a one-year deal last season, and after his incredible struggles, an extension was likely not even a thought. To be frank, he shouldn’t have even been on the team in June or July of last season, so he got more playing time than he deserved.
The Mets outfield situation is extremely crammed already, so even if De Aza had performed better or been available for cheap, the Amazin’s would be passing on him.
The veteran De Aza has played for six different clubs throughout his seven year career. He is an unrestricted free agent, and has not yet signed with any team for 2017.
