Mets OF Juan Lagares suffered a mild shoulder strain this past weekend after driving for a ball.

Wait, but it’s not the season? Nope, but injuries – well potential injuries – are rearing their heads for the Mets even in the offseason.

Lagares was playing in a winter league game in the Dominican Republic on Saturday. He was taken out of the game after he dived for a ball in the outfield and came down hard on his throwing shoulder.

On Sunday Lagares had X-rays done, which came back negative. He was still sent to New York to be seen by Mets doctors, which brings me to this new update. According to ESPN’s Adam Rubin, after the Mets doctors completed their examination of Lagares in New York on Monday, they found no reason for concern.

The final diagnosis? A mild shoulder strain. Phew.

Lagares is expected to be fine in time for Spring Training.

Well this is good news, right? I mean, it’s not bad news, except for the fact that it’s December and we’re already starting to hear about potential injuries and become worried about the health of our players.

Asdrubal Cabrera is also playing in a winter league this offseason, back in his home country of Venezuela. Should we be concerned about him? I really hope not, but he did struggle through some knee issues this past season, luckily not needing surgery like Lagares needed on his thumb.

Meanwhile, there are other Mets players such as Michael Conforto have opted to not be playing in any winter leagues, and therefore we do not have to worry about the potential of them getting injured.

Yes, I know, I may be a bit too worried about injuries, but how can you not be after this past season? Let’s use this offseason to strengthen, practice, and prepare to bring home a World Series in 2017.
