Ben Zobrist, IF/OF, Oakland:
Zobrist, 34, is a free agent after the season, and is hitting .259/.348/.421 with five home runs and 32 RBI so far this season for the A’s.
While a report in the Daily News said that the Mets and A’s recently discussed potential names that would go to Oakland in exchange for Zobrist, other reports –including one from Bob Klapisch that flat out says the Mets aren’t getting Zobrist — suggest otherwise.
Zobrist would be a solid get for the Mets, since he’s someone who can sub in for Michael Cuddyer in the outfield, play second base in place of Wilmer Flores, or play shortstop in a pinch if need be.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the A’s were interested in Rafael Montero in exchange for Zobrist before Montero got hurt, which suggests the price for Zobrist won’t be too high.
