Mets news: Jacob deGrom strikes out side in All-Star Game

Facing the best hitters in the American League, reigning NL Rookie of the Year and New York Mets star Jacob deGrom fanned all three batters he faced, joining Sid Fernandez (1986), Dwight Gooden (1984), Tug McGraw (1972) and Tom Seaver (1968) as the only other pitchers in Mets history to accomplish the feat in an All Star Game.
The announcers just couldn’t stop raving about his performance.
Entering the game in the sixth inning, deGrom retired Stephen Vogt, Jason Kipnis and Jose Iglesias in order — all swinging. Even more convincing? The fact that he got through the sixth throwing just one ball while not allowing any of the hitters to make contact.
His 97- and 98-MPH fastball was just overwhelming for hitters. His spotting was superb, his secondary pitches (while scarce) were on-point and his poise and concentration was spectacular. He was the most impressive pitcher all night.
#deGrominant, anyone?
His 2.14 ERA ranks fourth among qualified starters in the National League, and the numbers he has posted in his first 39 Big League starts is similar to that of Matt Harvey and Tom Seaver, according to Amazin’ Avenue.
His 17 starts this year have all been fantastic:
