Monday, June 15

Noah Syndergaard (2-4, 4.15 ERA) vs. Mark Buehrle (7-4, 4.25 ERA)

The turn of the calendar hasn’t been friendly to Noah Syndergaard as his ERA jumped from 1.82 at the end of May to his current 4.15. Since his seven 1/3 innings of shutout ball against the Phillies, he’s allowed seven earned runs against the San Diego Padres, followed by four earned runs against the San Francisco Giants.

Hopefully he’ll be able to quicken his pace, mix up his pitches, and add a bit of movement on his fastball since those were some of the attributes towards his successful run at the end of May.

Mark Buehrle, the 16-year veteran, has been stuck in mediocrity all season. He’s thrown two complete games, one of a shutout variety, but also gave up eight runs in an earlier start against the Cleveland Indians.

Buehrle will be facing his nemesis, Michael Cuddyer, in this series. Cuddyer has had 110 at-bats against Buehrle, the most in his career, and his numbers are impressive: .318/.350/.500 with three home runs and 19 RBIs.
