Jon Niese (3-5, 4.42 ERA) vs. Chase Anderson (1-1, 3.26 ERA)
In his last start against the Miami Marlins, Jon Niese didn’t walk any batter, which would’ve been the first time he’s done that since September of last season. Niese, much like a couple of the Mets pitchers, has been in a production doldrum lately. Since his start on May 9, Niese has allowed four earned runs in his next start, followed by eight earned runs and four earned runs the next two starts. Because of that, his ERA has ballooned from 1.95 to 4.42 in a span of four starts.
Career-wise, Niese hasn’t fared well against the Diamondbacks, despite notching two wins against them. In five starts, the southpaw is 2-2 with an ERA of 6.67. In those starts, he’s allowed six home runs in only 28 1/3 innings.
For the Diamondbacks, Chase Anderson will look to bounce back after a tough outing against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing six earned runs on ten hits in only five innings. That being said, don’t let this one start deter you from a successful season, so far, for Anderson.
He hasn’t faced the Mets in his young career, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Mets fare against the 27-year-old righty.
