Saturday, May 23
Matt Harvey (5-1, 1.98 ERA) vs. A.J. Burnett (3-1, 1.38 ERA)
Harvey has thrown 16 straight scoreless innings, dating back to May 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies. His last two starts have been marvelous, striking out 18 batters in 15 innings of work. Because the Mets offense has been non-existent over those two starts, he ended up with a no decision each time.
He has only faced the Pirates once, going seven innings in his only start, allowing two runs to score on five hits.
For the Pirates, A.J. Burnett has been a bright spot on their starting rotation, winning his last three decisions, going seven innings in those starts. He’s no stranger to the Mets, as he has faced them 24 times in his career.
In those starts, Burnett is 5-9 against them with a 4.18 ERA.
