The strike zone for Familia was miniscule

Jeurys Familia worked the first batter he faced in the ninth inning, but followed by inducing a double play and a fly out to end the game. The first batter, though, shouldn’t have reached.

Familia was getting squeezed in a big way by the home plate umpire:

The above graphic shows the first at bat of the ninth, with the sixth pitch (ball four) actually being strike three. It should be noted that the second ball also nicked the lower third of the zone.

Nevertheless, Monday was Familia’s second straight impressive performance as he continues to get acclimated to the closer role.
