Jeurys Familia was lights out in the ninth
In his first appearance since Jenrry Mejia‘s 80-game suspension for illegal performance enhancing drugs was announced, new closer Jeurys Familia quickly shut the door in the ninth inning.
Familia entered after Jerry Blevins got the first out, and proceeded to strike out Jonny Gomes on three pitches before inducing an inning-ending pop out to Phil Gosselin.
Prior to Sunday, Familia had already put the concerns about his low Spring Training velocity and poor results behind him.
On Sunday, though, Familia was his most impressive at a time when both he and the Mets needed it the most.
