Sean Gilmartin did his job well

Rule 5 draftee Sean Gilmartin did a great job in his major league debut, retiring the two lefties he was asked to get out.

Entering to start the bottom of the seventh, Gilmartin got Nick Markakis to ground out before striking out Freddie Freeman.

Gilmartin, one of three left-handers in the bullpen, must be kept on the big league roster all season or be offered back to the Twins.

Gilmartin’s minor league splits suggest he’ll be an effective lefty specialist, and he succeeded on Friday night in what was his first chance to start proving it.
