Three takeaways from Monday’s Mets victory

Here are three takeaways from Monday’s Mets win over the Nationals…
Jeurys Familia was dominant
Jeurys Familia, who was lit up during Spring Training, looked like the Familia of 2014 while pitching a shutdown eighth inning.
The worry about Familia prior to the season wasn’t because of his Spring Training results (which are meaningless). Rather, the concern cropped up because Familia’s velocity was down for the majority of March.
On Monday, Familia’s fastball ranged between 95 and 97 MPH and touched 98. Familia’s secondary stuff was also electric, with all four sliders he threw inducing swings-and-misses from the Nats.
Monday’s performance by Familia might take on an even more important note if the news the Mets get on Jenrry Mejia‘s right elbow isn’t positive.
According to manager Terry Collins, Familia will shift to closer if Mejia is out.
