Game Recap: Mets lose to Nationals 5-4

The Mets had an early 4-0 lead but relievers destined for Triple-A couldn’t hold it as they lost to the Nationals by the score of 5-4 on Thursday in Viera.
Game Recap:
John Mayberry, Jr. gave the Mets a 1-0 lead when he homered off Max Scherzer in his first Spring Training at-bat.
The Mets took a 3-0 lead in the third on the strength of Eric Campbell‘s two-run shot, and increased the lead to 4-0 when Anthony Recker delivered an RBI single.
After the Nationals drew to within 4-3 by scoring off Hansel Robles and Gabriel Ynoa, Cory Mazzoni surrendered a two-run homer in the seventh as Washington took a 5-4 lead.
Highlights:
- Bartolo Colon got the start and tossed two scoreless innings.
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two strikeouts.
- Ruben Tejada got the start at shortstop and went 0-for-3.
- Matt den Dekker led off and went 0-for-2.
Next Up:
The Mets play their Spring Training home opener on Friday when they host the Tigers at Tradition Field at 1:10 PM.
Matt Harvey, in his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery, gets the start for the Mets. Noah Syndergaard, Jenrry Mejia, and Jeurys Familia are also scheduled to pitch for the Mets.
