Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who has been hospitalized since the weekend due to an infection, will remain in the hospital while undergoing further tests over the next few days.
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Nieuwenhuis’ infection is kidney stone related.
Nieuwenhuis was initially in the lineup on Friday, but was scratched after he began to feel ill.
The 27-year-old Nieuwenhuis had a triple slash of .259/.346/.482 in 130 plate appearances spanning 61 games for the Mets in 2014.
Nieuwenhuis is out of options, and is expected to have a spot on the bench for the Mets in 2015.
