Jon Niese struggled in the bottom of the first as the Nationals jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
With Doug Fister shutting the Mets down, Niese allowed another three-spot in the sixth as the Nationals took a 6-0 lead and put the game out of reach.
The Mets plated a run in the eighth when Daniel Murphy delivered a two-out single, but the Nationals got that run right back in the bottom of the frame when an Adam LaRoche homer made it 7-1 and closed out the scoring.
- Jon Niese allowed six runs, the eighth straight start where he’s allowed three runs or more (excluding the start where he was knocked out due to being hit by a line drive)
The Mets wrap up their three-game series with the Nationals on Thursday in Washington at 12:35 PM.
