The Mets announced after Tuesday’s win that Gonzalez Germen had been demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The move was made in advance of Dillon Gee‘s expected activation on Wednesday from the disabled list.

Germen, 26, had struggled since returning from the disabled list.

Overall, in 26.1 innings pitched for the Mets spanning 20 appearances, the 26-year-old Germen posted a 4.78 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

Germen hadn’t been pitching well recently, but at 26 and with a tremendous changeup, he remains someone with solid upside.

Keeping 36-year-old Buddy Carlyle on the roster over Germen seems a bit odd, but it isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

If the Mets wind up demoting Carlyle in a separate move, Ryan Reid or Miguel Socolovich are relievers in Triple-A Las Vegas who may get the call.
