Gonzalez Germen won’t return from disabled list when eligible

By Danny Abriano

Gonzalez Germen, who is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, will not be activated immediately.

Germen made a recent rehab appearance, but is still not 100 percent. He has since been removed from the rehab assignment.

According to general manager Sandy Alderson, in addition to still having some flu-like symptoms (which landed Germen on the disabled list), he also has an abscess.

Prior to landing on the disabled list, the 26-year-old Germen had a 3.57 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 17.2 innings pitched spanning 13 appearances.

When Germen is ready to return, it stands to reason that he will be taking Jose Valverde’s place in the major league bullpen.
