Lucas Duda is hitting cleanup on Thursday

Two days after saying he may wait a month to shift Lucas Duda to the cleanup spot, Mets manager Terry Collins has Duda hitting cleanup Thursday afternoon against the Cardinals.

Before Thursday, Collins had intimated that he didn’t want to put added pressure on Duda by hitting him cleanup so soon after the trade of Ike Davis officially made him “the guy” at first base.

Collins’ reasoning for keeping Duda out of the cleanup spot never made sense, and those thoughts are hopefully in the rearview mirror now that Duda has been inserted at cleanup.

However, with Curtis Granderson getting a day off, there’s also the chance that Duda being in the cleanup spot on Thursday is something that happened by default more than anything.

We’ll know for sure when the lineup comes out on Friday whether or not Duda to cleanup is something that’s the norm, or if it was just a one day thing.
