The Mets announced Saturday that right handed reliever Gonzalez Germen has made the Opening Day roster, in turn rounding out the bullpen.

Germen had a poor spring, posting a 7.94 ERA in in 11.1 innings pitched. He allowed 12 hits, walked six, and struck out 10.

Germen will join closer Bobby Parnell, Jose Valverde, Jeurys Familia, Carlos Torres, and left-handers Scott Rice and John Lannan in the bullpen.

After Vic Black –  who had been all but assured a spot in the bullpen – was demoted to the minors, the door opened for Germen to slide in by default.

The only other competitor aside from Germen who had a chance to make the pen in Black’s stead was Kyle Farnsworth, but his velocity has yet to come around.

Although he had a rough spring, Germen has a devastating changeup in his arsenal – something that could allow him to be a contributor if the other parts of his game click.

In 2013 for the Mets, Germen, 26, posted a 3.93 ERA (2.90 FIP) in 34.1 innings pitched. He allowed 32 hits, walked 16, and struck out 33.
