Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is sitting out Thursday after recently tweaking his right calf while stepping on the second base bag.

According to manager Terry Collins, Murphy wanted to make the bus trip to Fort Myers and play on Friday, but Collins won’t allow that to happen. Instead, Murphy will likely make his return to Grapefruit League action on Saturday in Port St. Lucie.
Eric Young, Jr. will get the start at second base in Murphy’s stead on Thursday.
Terry Collins recently pledged to ramp up the game action for the expected starting players with spring training winding down, so the injury to Murphy is a temporary nuisance.
This injury seems as minor as possible, but is of course a bit worrisome due to the fact that Opening Day is just 11 days away.
However, with Murphy expected to return to the lineup Saturday, any fears should be allayed rather quickly.
