Ep. 62: Rising Apple Report With Umpire Perry Barber

By Rich Sparago

Episode 62 of the Rising Apple Report will feature special guest Perry Barber, a female umpire with major league experience. We’ll ask for her thoughts on expanded replay, what some of the challenges are that the replay umpires will face, the home plate collision rule and of course, what it’s like to be a big league umpire! Do catchers and hitters banter with the umpire, trying to “sell” balls and strikes? What really gets under an umpire’s skin during a game? Are there certain “magic phrases” that will get a player or manager ejected? Perry will tell us!

And by the way, the Mets have been playing baseball in Florida for a week and a half now. There are some story lines there too. How can the Mets assess Ike Davis and Lucas Duda, who aren’t playing? How’s the fifth starter competition going? And what will they do about shortstop?

Of course, we’ll talk about the Met (yes, singular) who wore number 62. Do you know who that was?

So give episode #62 a listen at 6:30 pm on March 12th. This will be a fun and informative installment of the Rising Apple Report!
