Daniel Murphy Expected To Return Tomorrow

By Danny Abriano

Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy, who has missed the last few games after injuring his shin sliding aggressively into second base, is set to make his return to game action Wednesday.

Manager Terry Collins plans to have Murphy back in the lineup for the 1:10 PM game in Port St. Lucie against the Cardinals.

After irritating his shin while sliding, Murphy limped off the field and went into the clubhouse. However, he returned to the dugout almost immediately, and later downplayed the severity of the injury.

While Murphy’s injury appeared to be more of an irritation than anything, Terry Collins did what he usually does. He gave Murphy a few extra days off even after he was ready to return –  something that’s prudent, especially during spring training.

With Murphy set to make his return to the lineup, the only two Mets still on the shelf are Ike Davis (calves) and Lucas Duda (hamstring).

Neither Davis or Duda is ready to return to Grapefruit League action, but there’s no reason to believe either of their injuries will linger into the regular season.
