With Frenetic Push From #MetsTwitter, David Wright Wins Face of MLB Contest

The Face of MLB contest run by the MLB Network started out as something that irritated most Mets fans on Twitter, but ended with #MetsTwitter uniting Friday morning to make sure David Wright defeated Oakland Athletics utility player Eric Sogard to win the contest.

Wright was trailing by a significant margin Friday morning at 7AM, but Mets fans joined together and tweeted and retweeted the hell out of tweets supporting Wright to get him even and eventually push him over the top.

It doesn’t mean much in the long run, but it was nice to see #MetsTwitter coming together instead of bickering.

After winning, David Wright appeared on the MLB Network and weighed in:

"I’d like to thank my parents for giving me this face…the Mets fans came out in full force, the celebrity Mets fans, my teammates…they got those competitive juices flowing and it was pretty cool to be a part of."
