Mets Announce Starting Pitching Schedule For First Week Of Spring Training

By Danny Abriano

The Mets have announced their starting pitching schedule for the first week of spring training games.  The schedule is as follows:

Feb 18, 2014; Port St Lucie, FL, USA; New York Mets pitcher Rafael Montero (50) makes a catch during spring training practice drills at Tradition Field. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Friday 2/28: Rafael Montero Saturday 3/1: John Lannan Sunday 3/2: Daisuke Matsuzaka Monday 3/3: Noah Syndergaard Tuesday 3/4: Jonathon Niese Wednesday 3/5: Bartolo Colon

Noticeably absent from the schedule are Zack Wheeler, Dillon Gee, and Jenrry Mejia – two pitchers who are guaranteed spots and one (Mejia) who is hoping to round out the rotation.

Unless the Mets are pushing those three pitchers into the second week of games, it’s likely that they’ll all get their work in while piggybacking one of the other starters.

All six of the Mets games above will be either viewable on SNY or WPIX, on the radio on WOR 710, or both:

Friday vs. Nationals: SNY/WOR at 1:10 PM

Saturday vs. Marlins: WPIX at 1:10 PM

Sunday @ Cardinals: WOR at 1:05 PM

Monday @ Braves: WOR at 1:05 PM

Tuesday vs. Astros: SNY at 1:10 PM

Wednesday vs. Marlins: SNY at 1:10 PM
