The New York Mets equaled their total losses from last season (88) with a 10-inning loss to the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, their 3rd in a row since winning 2 of 3 from the playoff-bound Reds.

After a Carlos Gomez homer made it 1-0 Brew Crew in the 4th, the Mets tied it with a Daniel Murphy sac fly that score Lucas Duda, who had walked to open the bottom half.

Everything stayed relatively quiet until the top of the 8th, when the crew took the lead on a Yuniesky Betancourt sac fly that scored Jonathan Lucroy.

The Mets fought back in the bottom of the 9th, however, with Eric Young, Jr. singling in Matt den Dekker to tie the game at 2.

Papa Scott Atchison, however, could not hold it in the extras, with the crew taking the lead on 2 RBI singles by Carlos Gomez and Betancourt in the top of the 10th inning.

The Mets went quietly in their half, and lost by a score of 4-2.

Notables:

  • Aaron Harang pitched well, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings, striking out 7.
  • The Mets collected only 5 hits on the evening, compared to Milwaukee’s 12.
  • The team was 1-10 with RISP, and left 10 men on base.

Thoughts:

The home performance this year has been absolutely unacceptable. End of story. It doesn’t matter what they do this offseason. Clearly, no matter what anybody thinks of the roster assembled in 2013, the New York Mets could have been right there with a 41-40 record on the road and a much better one at home. They couldn’t get it done, and it’s not going to matter what anybody does this offseason if they continue to fail so miserably in Citi Field.

Change the @#*$% tune.

On the day Mike Piazza is inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame, LHP Jon Niese (8-8, 3.74 ERA) will take on RHP Marco Estrada (7-4, 4.02 ERA) tomorrow at 1:10PM ET, the last Mets game of the year.
